A delegation of the Sierra Leone Wrestling Association (SLWA) on Tuesday departed the country with three wrestlers as they head for the African Championship in Tunisia.
The association’s president, Prince Sualley who headed the delegation, said the competition is important because it will help the wrestlers to prepare for the Commonwealth Games in Scotland and the World Championship in Poland.
According to Sualley, he is looking forward to another success in the Africa Championship after two of his wrestlers won bronze medals in the 2012 Championship in Marrakesh, Morocco.
Abdulai Salam won bronze medal in the 74kg Greco Roman style, while Hajaratu Kanu secured her bronze in the Olympic qualification, and the two wrestlers are also in contention for more medals in the forthcoming competition with Abdulai Rogers, who narrowly missed out on the medal table in the last championship, very much upbeat.
“During the last competition, Salam and Hajaratu took me by surprise. I believe they will do more in this year’s championship,” Sualley said with optimism.
