President of the Sierra Leone Wrestling Associations (SLWA), Prince Sualley, has revealed that his wrestlers are presently undergoing intensive individual training ahead of the hectic 2015 calendar year.
According to Sualley, because of the current health situation in the country, his wrestlers had no alternative but to embark on individual training under the observation of the national coach and the team captain.
“We cannot seat back and doing nothing, so we’ve decided to embark on individual training and we’ve drawn up a rooster for the top fighters. The captain and coach are always having a daily routine with the individual fighters,” Sualley explained.
The SLWA president further revealed that their 2015 calendar is jam-packed with a lot of important competitions, and notable amongst them is the African Championship which he said will be staged in Alexandra, Egypt in May.
He said: “The 2015 calendar is important for us and it is the reason we are engaging our fighters now with individual training exercises. The African Championship is one big competition we must not miss out on because it will serve as qualification ground for both the World Championship in USA and the Rio Olympic Games.”
Having missed out on few international competitions last year, the SLWA president is confident that this year the current health situation will not deter them from competing.
“Already we have engaged our international federation and with things improving in the country, I am sure we will compete in our entire planned international tournaments this year,” Sualley said.
