President of Athletics Region Zone II, Momar Mbye, has revealed that Sierra Leone will be the next host nation of the Economic Community of West Africa States (ECOWAS) Junior Athletics Championship.
Mbye made this disclosure in an interview with Gambia Daily Observer Sports in which he hailed the wonderful performances displayed by athletes from the country at the last event, which was hosted in Banjul, The Gambia, a tournament Sierra Leone won 14 medals.
“With the next championship scheduled to take place in Sierra Leone, the organisers will come up with measures to deter countries from using over-age athletes for the junior championship,” Mbye said.
The Athletics Region Zone II President further stated that it was important to be organising such an event as it helps foster integration within the sub-region of ECOWAS. The championship, he added, will also help to create competition among athletes in the sub-region.
