Salone Olympic opponent defeated in friendly

July 15, 2015 By Sahr Morris Jr.

Sierra Leone’s opponent in the final qualifying round of the U-23 Rio 2016 Olympic Games, Algeria, suffered a 2-1 defeat to Senegal in a friendly match on Saturday night at the Stade Mustapha-Tchaker Blida.

The match was a warm-up encounter between the two sides as they seek for a place in the final round battle for the Rio 2016 Games.

The Senegalese took a 2-0 lead before going to half-time, but the Algerians reduced the score-line through a penalty converted by Zakaria Hadouche late in the game.

The match was the second friendly encounter between the two teams; the first match last Tuesday ended 1-0 in favour of Algeria.

Algeria, who were exempted from the first two rounds of the championship playoffs, will face Sierra Leone in the first leg on July 19 at the Mustapha Tchaker stadium, while the return meeting is scheduled for July 25 at the same venue.

The final phase of the African Championship U-23 Nations Cup will take place from 5 to 19 December in Senegal. The first three teams will represent the continent at the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
