Prevention of Cervical Cancer: Marie Stopes offers free family planning

In a bid to ensure improved access to family planning commodities through a sustainable supply chain reforms and improve data visibility by 2020, Marie Stopes Sierra Leone yesterday commenced offering free end of year family planning promotion for women.

The free service will run until Wednesday, 20th December, and women and girls of reproductive ages will have access to free, quality, personalised and confidential family planning services all over the country.

In a press release, Country Director of Marie Stopes, Dr. Ufuomo Omo obi described the promotion as their ‘end of year Saamba’ to help prevent cervical cancer in Sierra Leone.

“This will be an exceptional opportunity for women to have access to contraception,” he said.

According to the release, the service would be available for free at their outreach sites in Bo, Kenema, Koidu, Kabala, Freetown, Big Waterloo Street and Kissy, among others.

“Services that will be available for free are long acting and reversible contraceptives LARC specifically IUD Coil and implant Captain Band including cervical cancer screening and treatment of pre-cancerous lesion using the ‘See and Treat approach,” the release stated.

With support from Orange SL and Africell Mobile Company, clients will be able to use the toll free line 3535 from either network to seek clarifications or book preferred choice of services and centres across the country.
