President Korma will end Ebola

...60 year-old optimistic

DECEMBER 16, 2014  By Mohamed Massaquoi

A retired civil servant has told Concord Times that despite challenges in the fight against Ebola, he is optimistic President Ernest Bai Koroma will succeed in the fight against the deadly virus in the country.

Abdulai Bangura used to work at the Ministry of Health and Sanitation and retired few weeks ago.

“I have been working for the Ministry of Health since the outbreak of Ebola. A lot of effort has been put in the Ebola fight but we are still faced with the pandemic. What is now worrisome is the level at which the disease is spreading, more so in the Western Area. It is generally accepted by every Sierra Leonean that Ebola is real and has come to kill our people,” Bangura said.

He added: “The president has tried his level best to fight Ebola but there are still difficulties. However, I am optimistic that President Koroma will end Ebola and Sierra Leone will again take-off from that of a battered economy to a sustainable one in which Sierra Leoneans will benefit.”

Asked about the president’s decision to ban Charismas and New Year celebrations, Bangura said the country is in total turmoil and that decisive decisions are needed to address the situation. He said the discussion by the president was significant in addressing the Ebola outbreak in Sierra Leone.

“It is absolutely important to note that Kenema and Kailahun are doing extremely well in the fight. Port Loko has recently joined the trend in the fight, that is why I want to commend the efforts of the president for his relentless endeavour. He has travelled across the country talking to paramount chiefs, local authorities and health workers, commending them in the fight. The president has also called on the international community to help us address the issue of Ebola,” he recalled and urged: “I want to advice compatriots to keep to the rules. Sierra Leone belongs to all of us, it is no hidden secret that Charismas is about enjoyment and friendship but I want to appeal to all of us to adhere to messages from health experts.”
