President Bio’s Free Education will provide benefits to thousands of poor pupils

President Julius Maada Bio will today launch the Free Quality Education for pre-school, primary and senior secondary school pupils ahead of next academy year -2018/2019 – in line with his campaign promises.

The president had also promised free university education for students pursuing science and technology courses as well as medicine, and free tertiary education for three children of teachers that have taught for least 10 years.

“Free education will be introduced effective September 2018 for all primary and secondary schools to improve access to quality education,” President Bio promised during his maiden State Opening of Parliament on 10th May.

The free education package, according to the SLPP New Direction manifesto, would also provide text books for the core subjects, two set of uniforms and a pair of shoe, but Minister of Primary and Secondary Education Alpha Timbo has noted that the president would have the final saying as to the package.

“Free university education will be provided for three children of every school teacher with ten years of experience,” the SLPP manifesto said, adding that free tuition for teacher education would also be introduced.

Meanwhile, President Bio had also announced a near doubling of budget on education from 11 to 20 percent of the annual budgetary allocation.
