Leader of the National Grand Coalition (NGC) in Parliament, Hon. Kandeh Yumkella has reminded the newly appointed chairman of the Political Parties Registration Commission (PPRC) that the institution is the most critical structure of the country’s democracy.

He made the above observation while contributing to the debate on the approval of nominees appointed by President Bio to serve in various institutions across the country.

He called on the newly approved Chairman of PPRC to settle the impasse among members of the All Political Parties Association (APPA).

He also urged the nominee for the Sierra Leone Roads Authority (SLRA) that the country needs more roads, especially the ones that would represent value for country’s money.

He added that parliament has approved a large number of people who are expected to perform well, stating that, “This parliament will be waiting for the day that we will recommend for the President to fire some people for non-performance.”

Hon. Gevao of the ruling Sierra Leone Peoples Party (SLPP), expressed admiration for the new Director-General of the Sierra Leone Correctional Service, Joseph Lamboi, mentioning the visit of the Human Rights committee to correctional centres across the country.

He cautioned the PPRC chairman that his institution is critical and that he should work without fear or favour.

Hon. Mohamed Bangura of the APC stated that the commission has no enforcement power, but called on the chairman to go over the Act and bring it to Parliament for review.

He informed him that his office is a delicate one and that he should be neutral in his dealings.
