Police officer testifies in Kono murder matter

Detective Police Constable 13822 Komba Sorie attached to the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) in Kono has on Monday 14th June, 2021, testified against four accused persons who were charged in connection with the alleged murder in Kono.

According to the indictment, Mohamed Johnson, aka after birthday, Aiah Komba aka Akon, Kalilu Fofanah aka Kalipso, Victor Kellie and Ishmael Charles aka diesel, on Wednesday 20th April in Koidu Town, conspired with other persons unknown to commit a felony to wit murder.

Police also alleged that the accused persons on the same date and place, the sccused persons allegedly murdered Kai Osman Fengai.

In his testimony to the court, Detective Komba Sorie said he recognized all accused persons in the dock, as well as the deceased Kai Osman Fengai.

He recalled on Tuesday, 20th April, 2021, when he was on duty at CID in Kono, the Operations team headed by ASP Tamba Kamanda, together with the complainant brought in the 2nd and 3rd accused persons and reported a case of wounding in respect of the deceased.

He added that the matter was allocated to him for further investigation and that upon the information that the deceased was being taken to the Koidu Government Hospital, himself and the complaint went to visit the victim who is now deceased.

“Upon arrival at the hospital, the victim was already in the theatre so we could not get access to him. Before long, he was pronounced dead by the medical personnel,” he disclosed.

He said the remains of the deceased were later taken to the Mortuary. “At the scene of crime, I later received a wooden bench, piece of cloth, and a pair of slippers which had blood stain,” he testified.

He narrated that the scene of crime officer took snap shot of the items and recorded them as evidence.

He continued that upon returning to the police station, statements were obtained from the complainant and witnesses, adding that while at the station, the 1st accused was arrested and brought into the station by one Adamu.

The witness said himself together with Sergeant 9482 Kamara G interviewed the 1st accused person, but that the interview was not concluded because the accused told them that he was feeling dizzy.

He added that the 1st accused had told them that he had thrown the alleged knife he used to stab the deceased in a nearby place.

“A team of investigators revisited the scene. At the scene, the 1st accused identified the gutter where he threw the knife. We conducted a search, but could not find the knife,” he said. He said the team later returned to the station and continued with the interview.

He further narrated that on the 29th April, he and Detective police constable Bah M. A further interviewed the 1st accused person (Mohamed Johnson). The said contemporaneous interview statement was tendered in court.

Meanwhile, Magistrate Sahr Kekura stopped the proceedings, and requested for an adjournment. He sent all accused persons on remand and adjourned the matter to Wednesday 16th June, 2021.
