In a recent court proceeding at Pademba Road Court No.1 in Freetown, four individuals – Salifu Kamara (21), Abdulai Kamara (22), Dauda Suma (16), and Vitalis Ubawuchi (48) – appeared before Magistrate Sahr Kekura for the first time.
They faced charges related to store breaking and larceny under the Larceny Act 1916.
The charges stem from incidents alleged to have occurred between December 2023 and March 2024 at 4 Deen Sankoh Drive in Angola Town, Western Area Rural.
The accused were purported to have broken into the store of Solomon Baimba Mansaray and stolen various items, including outboard machines valued at a total of one million nine hundred and fifty-six thousand one hundred and ten Leones.
During the proceedings, the prosecutor, Ibrahim S Mansaray, requested a short adjournment to confer with witnesses. Meanwhile, counsel representing the accused, Charles Israel Williams, applied for bail, citing the accused individuals’ residency and the availability of reliable sureties.
However, Magistrate Kekura denied bail for the first, second, and fourth accused, directing them to the male correctional facility, while the juvenile was to be taken to Dems. The case was adjourned to May 10, 2024, as legal proceedings continue to unfold.
