Police detain Constituency 38 MP

All People Congress (APC) Member of Parliament representing constituency 38 in the Kambia district, Hon. Alieu Badara Munu was over the weekend arrested and detained by Police in Port Loko.

According to a resident of Kambia, Mariama Turay, Hon. Munu was arrested on allegation that he had ordered his relatives to wash the corpse of his late father, Pa. Alhaji Munu, 111, in breach of Public Health Emergency regulations.

When contacted, a senior police officer in Kambia who prefer anonymity confirmed the arrest of the ruling party lawmaker for contravening Public Health Emergency laws.

Reports from Kambia, which borders Guinea, and which has since a spike in new cases recently, say supporters of the MP have threatened to go on the rampage and target the Port Loko Police Station if the police did not release him. As at press time last evening, he was still said to be in detention.
