Parliamentary Committee Chairmen cautioned

June 22, 2021

The Leader of Government Business, Hon. Matthew Nyuma, has called on all Parliamentary Oversight Committee Chairmen to present their reports on the funds they received from the Office of the Clerk of Parliament.

“We have given monies for oversight functions to be conducted and those committees were set in the third session. We are yet to receiving reports on those issues. We want to see a report on those visits and if they fail to do so, they are doing it at their own detriment. We will have to receive them before the setting up of new committees for the fourth session. You cannot just go and use money without giving returns. I will give them a week for such to be done,” he said.

The call was made after the Mines and Minerals Resources committee made on-the-spot check in some mining communities in the North and South-East.

Hon Nyuma mentioned the issue raised by Hon. Kumabeh regarding the toxic waste that runs into Taia River, which needed to be investigated, thus noting that if those reports have been submitted to the plenary, it would help to answer many questions.

Meanwhile, Speaker of Parliament, Hon. Bundu said, he has tasked the Table Clerk to be following up on various Committees that have been given assignment on matters that have been brought before the House, adding that they still have outstanding reports from Transport and Health Committees.

However, the water pollution and transport and health committees have been set up to look into some burning issues brought before the House.
