Parliament approves new Bank Governor,5 others

Members of Parliament have yesterday approved Dr. Ibrahim Stevens as the new Bank Governor of the Bank of Sierra Leone and five others, to serve in different institutions.

 Prior to his appointment, the new Bank Governor acted in that capacity for almost a year.

The other nominees include: Ing. Alfred Jabbie  Momodu as Director General,Sierra Leone Roads Authority, Alhaji Mustapha Turay as Chairman, National Minerals Agency, Julius Tommy as Chief Executive Officer,National Public Procurement Authority, Abubakarr Carew as board member at Local government Commission and Sheikh Mahmoud Sesay as board member at Sierra Leone Port Authority,respectively.

 Hon. Aaron Koroma called on  the new Bank Governor to take note of the mobile money with the banks as the charges are exorbitant and that there was need to harmonize it.

He said there has been a turn-around in the economy since he was appointed to act as Bank Governor, which means he is capable to handle the country’s economy.

He said the interest rate on loan is high and that it is a huge burden on business people.

 He urged the nominee going to the Sierra Leone Road Authority to monitor very well.

Hon.Amie Moriba said the Governor should look into the issue of tenants paying rent in Dollars as against the Leones.

She said the dollar rate is killing so many homes, therefore keen attention should be given to it.

Hon. Francis Kaisamba said the governor should consider that he is in charge of the monetary policies; therefore his office should continue to work keenly with the Ministry of Finance.
