OSD officer docked for alleged murder

35 years old Alpha Bash Osman Kamara a police officer, made appearance before Magistrate Sahr Kekura of Pademba Road Court No 1 Freetown, on 1 count charges which murder contrary to section one (1) of the offense against the person Act of 1861 as repealed and replaced by section (1) (a) to the schedule of the Abolition of Death Penalty Act 6 of 2022.

Charge sheet stated that the accused on Monday 1st January 2023, at new London, Kossoh town Freetown, murdered Issa Kanu.

The charge was read out to the accused by the court registrar and no plea was taken from him.

Prosecution counsel led in witness No.1 Gabriel Sau a student, who lives at New London drive at kossoh town.

The witness said that he recognized the accused as an OSD Officer; he also knows the now deceased.

He stated that on the above mentioned date of the incident at 1:00hr, he met with the now deceased after church, and the deceased told him that he will be having a prayer session with his wife, he also said that whiles they were sitting down the accused had a gun in his hand and his brother enter their premises raining abusive words on them.

The testimony was cut short because the witness was having problem to speak, so the state prosecutor sought for a short date for him to have proper conference with the witness, which was granted by the Magistrate.

Bail was refused and accused was remanded to the Male correctional services at Pademba Road.

The matter was adjourned to the 23rd February 2024 for further.
