Orange Telecom to invest more $24M in 2019

Head of Public Relations at Orange Telecom Sierra Leone, Annie Wonnie Katta, has disclosed that the company would be investing additional 24 million United States Dollars in support of government’s effort to extend telecommunications services across the country.

Since they commenced operations in the country in 2016, Orange Telecom has invested the total sum of fifty-five million United States Dollars to improve, expand and modernize their network

She made the disclosure yesterday (Monday April 8th) at the Country Lodge Hotel in Freetown, during their media quarterly update.

She added that as part of their strategic ambition for Sierra Leone, they were presently in the country with a strong industrial project that would lead them to invest significantly to cover most of the population in the country.

She said they provided hundreds of direct employment to Sierra Leoneans and thousands of indirect employments, noting that they were going to provide more employment for Sierra Leoneans through their services.

Desmond Spain, Manager of Corporate Social Responsibility, said in 2018, Orange spent over two billion Leones in various sectors as part of their corporate social responsibility.

He said they had adopted 50 Ebola orphans that are currently housed at various SOS facilities across the country-a project worth over Le300 million and rehabilitated orthopedic and pediatric surgical theatres at Connaught Hospital for children worth over twenty thousand Euros.

She added that every year they distribute food items and provision to Muslims across the country during Month of Ramadan and supported the Freetown City Council, as well as the government’s free quality education.

Daniel Fornah, Networks Manager at Orange, said the company had spent fifty five million United States Dollars to modernize its network since they started operations in the country.

He said in 2017, they installed forty five new pole sites across the country and further installed forty two new pole sites, reaching over 925 localities across the country.

He added that in 2019 they are going to install another fifty sites across the country as well.

He said their 4G network was fully operational in both Western Rural and Urban, and that they would construct more twenty 4G new sites in major towns across the country.
