Orange Telecom, one of the leading telecommunication companies in Sierra Leone, yesterday (May 22) donated assorted food items worth millions of Leones to Muslims observing the Holy Month of Ramadan at the IMATT community, where the company is headquartered.
Speaking at the donation ceremony which took place at the Light of Islam Mosque, Manager of Corporate Affairs and Communication, Desmond Spaine, told Muslim worshipers that as part of their corporate social responsibility, they donate food items worth millions of Leones to Muslims across the country during Ramadan.
“We at Orange Telecom, we are aware that the Month of Ramadan is one of the most important months in the Muslim calendar. That is why every year Orange Telecom Sierra Leone joins Muslims in the country to observe this special and blessed month by donating assorted food items to Muslims across the country,” he said.
Spaine said it was significant that they donate to Muslims living in the community and observing the Holy Month of Ramadan.
He further told Muslim worshipers that the company has done a lot for the community as part of their corporate social responsibility, adding that two years ago they constructed an eight classroom school for the community, which cost over Le450 million.
He also reminded the worshipers about the role the company played during the mudslide disaster last August that claimed the lives of hundreds.
Receiving the donated items, Sheik Mohamed Koroma thanked Orange Telecom and the entourage for the donation, which he said came at the right time.
He said Orange Telecom has done a lot in that part of the community and that the donation would help Muslim worshipers at the Light of Islam Mosque to break their fast and prayed that the company get a share of the blessing of the Holy Month of Ramadan.
