Obreh Jr signs pro contract with Crystal Palace

The son of former Sierra Leone national team, Leone Stars, captain, Ibrahim Obreh Kargbo Jr. has signed a three year pro-contract with Premier League club Crystal Palace.

Confirming his lad’s signing, Ibrahim Obreh Kargbo Snr. said as a father and an experienced footballer, he is happy for the deal, which he described as a good offer for the lad.

According to Kargbo, who has 34 international caps for Sierra Leone, his 16-year-old is expected to be with the junior squad until he turns 17 in January, which could increase his chances of playing for the Palace senior squad.

He said: “The deal was a good one for the lad and we are all happy for this. The deal itself is a pro-contract and if he does well he can make it to the senior Palace squad because he has the techniques and speed to succeed.”

The former Leone Stars skipper also revealed that before his son joined Crystal Palace, he was with the Reading FC U-14 -15 where he twice won golden boot for finishing as the team’s top-scorer.

The youngster, who was born in Sierra Leone before moving to Belgium at a very young age, has also had a spell with the Reading U-13 side. He started playing his football with Germinal Beerschot U-9 sidesin Belgium.

The new Palace acquisition moved to England from Belgium in 2014 with his uncle before joining the Reading FC youth system.
