Manager of NP fuel station in Kambia, Alimu Bah, was yesterday remanded at the Male Correctional Center on Pademba Road for allegedly embezzling the sum of eighty-eight million, six thousand seven hundred and fifty Leones (Le88,06,750).
The accused was arraigned at the Freetown Magistrates’ Courts No.1 presided over by Magistrate Komba Kamanda on one count of embezzlement.
According to police prosecutor Assistant Superintendent Samuel Kamara, the accused on diverse dates between 1 January and 28 February 2015 fraudulently embezzled the said sum while managing the NP filling station on Main Kambia Highway in the Magbema Chiefdom, Kambia district, in the Northern Province.
The prosecutor informed the court that because of the absence of witnesses he was pleading for an adjournment. He also objected to bail on the grounds that the nature of the offence was serious and the quantum of money involved as the accused could jump or interfere with prosecution witnesses.
Magistrate Kamanda urged the prosecution to ensure the factual witness was in court in the subsequent hearing and upheld the prosecution’s argument for denying bail.
He adjourned the matter to 23 April.
