Newly appointed Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the People’s Republic of China to the Republic of Sierra Leone, H.E. Mr. Zhao Yanbo on 9th January presented his Letter of Credence to President Ernest Bai Koroma at State House in Freetown.

At the ceremony, Ambassador Zhao said China and Sierra Leone enjoy a deep-rooted friendship.

Over the past 40 years and more since the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries, both sides have carried out fruitful cooperation in political, economic, cultural and health fields and had mutual support and close cooperation in international affairs.

As the new Chinese Ambassador, he said he will exert his best efforts and work closely with the Sierra Leonean side to cement and develop the friendly relations.

In his response, President Koroma welcomed Ambassador Zhao to assume his new post and said that China has been a great friend of Sierra Leone.

Sierra Leone-China friendship is visibly demonstrated all over the country by appropriate Chinese built infrastructures. In recent years, this friendship is being enhanced by Chinese private sector investments in agriculture and mining. Sierra Leone is ready to seize the opportunities brought about by China’s peaceful rise to further strengthen bilateral relations and mutual cooperation between the two countries.

Ambassador Zhao arrived in Freetown on 31st December, 2013 and presented the copy of his Letter of Credence to Foreign Affairs Minister, Dr. Samura Kamara on 8th January, 2014.
