Muslim clergy to be arrested for dodging court proceedings

Magistrate Abdul Sheriff of Freetown Court No.3 yesterday, Thursday, 3rd September, ordered the arrest and detention of Sheik Ibrahim Kargbo, a Muslim Clergy for failing to appear in court to answer to an allegation against him.

The accused is before the court on a one count charge of assault occasioning actual bodily harm contrary to Section 47 of the Offences Against the Persons Act 1861.

According to the charge sheet, the accused on Friday, 8 December, 2019, at Sussex Village, Peninsula in Freetown, assaulted Dericka Thompson in a manner thereby occasioning actual bodily harm..

However, since bail was granted to Sheik Ibrahim Kargbo, he had jumped bail and refused to attend court proceedings.

In that light, the prosecuting officer, Assistant Superintendent of Police, Moses Moore, applied that the accused be arrested.

The matter comes up again on the 10 September 2020.
