Murder matter lessens to manslaughter

Justice Ivan Sesay yesterday granted an application from State lawyer J. S. Tucker for the murder charge against four accused persons, Salieu Dominic Conteh, Sheka Kamara, Santigie Bangura, and Saidu Bangura, be reduced to manslaughter.

The accused were before the court for allegedly murdering one Abu Kamara in the Western Area Urban on 20th April, 2019.

After the charge was reduced to manslaughter, it was read to them again but they pleaded not guilty.

State Prosecutor, J.S. Tucker, made the application pursuant to Section 148(1) of the Criminal Procedure Act No.32 of 1965.

The prosecutor further applied that jurors be dismissed from the trial because the charge has been modified to manslaughter.

Meanwhile, the judge ordered the state prosecutor to come with their witness(s) in the next adjourned date 27th August, 2020

In a related matter, the state lawyer J.S. Tucker reduced another robbery with aggravation to robbery contrary to the laws of Sierra Leone before Justice Ivan Sesay.

State Prosecution J. S Tucker  had  alleged that the accused, Shaka Bangura, Demba Sidique Conteh, and Alie Kargbo between 6th June and 8th June, 2019, in Freetown, Robbed the complainant,  Mohamed Sankoh.

Lawyer for the accused, C. Tucker from Legal Aid Board informed the court that on the next adjourned date he will apply for bail on behalf of his client.

Justice Sesay admonished the state that if they do not proceed with the matter after five adjournments he will discharge the accused persons.

The matter has been adjourned to 27th August 2020 for further hearings.
