September 20, 2016 By Patrick Jaiah Kamara

Honourable Francis Kowa, with support from the Indian Makathan Association (IMA), has awarded scholarship to 372 pupils in constituency 107, worth over Le70 million.

The award ceremony, which took place at the Constance Cummings-John Municipal Secondary School Hall in Freetown, attracted community stakeholders, IMA officials, constituency chairlady, chiefs and pupils, among others.

Gibson Tejan Jawara, who chaired the occasion, said it was a humanitarian gesture from IMA to support Hon. Kowa award scholarship to deserving pupils.

He cautioned the awardees to make good use of the opportunity as according to him, it was once in a life time.

Representative of IMA, Frank Balani, said Hon. Kowa approached the association and requested assistance to award scholarship to deserving pupils whose parents cannot afford to pay their school fees.

“The screening and selection process was done by Hon. Kowa. After deliberations, it was jointly decided to award 50 primary school pupils, 20 Junior Secondary School pupils, 10 Senior Secondary School pupils, and 5 university students,” said Balani.

In addition, Hon. Kowa also awarded another set of scholarship to 81 pupils in the same constituency.

Susan’s Bay chief, Pa Alimamy Kamara, noted that it was the first time a Member of Parliament was awarding scholarship to constituents, thus thanking the lawmaker for the gesture.

“Education is key to every development and anyone supporting it is contributing to the development of the nation. I urge you pupils to make the best use of this opportunity,” he said.
