Mariama Laundeh, the mother of a 2 year-old-child yesterday narrated to Magistrate Abdul Sheriff presiding at the Pademba Road court No.3 how her child was sexually abused by James Laundeh.
She identified the accused as her neighbour and recalled the day of the incident, Friday 8th March, 2019.
She told the court that on that day, she was bathing the victim, and as she attempted to clean her vagina when she screamed and complained that she was feeling pain.
The mother told the court that when she painstakingly asked the victim what was wrong with her vagina, she replied that it was the accused who has deflowered her with his fingers.
She said after that process, she checked the vagina of the victim and noticed that it was red.
She narrated that she later took the victim to one Memuna- wife of the accused, who denied knowledge of the incident, but advised that the child be taken to an expert.
She further that she later took the victim to one Mammy Baromie, who told her that someone has tampered with the victim.
The witness said upon her return, she explained to the wife of the accused who also called the victim and interviewed her about the incident.
She said the victim claimed that it was the accused that abused her.
The witness said she informed her husband about the alleged sexual abuse and the following morning they took the victim to the Wellington Police Station, where they were issued with a medical request form which they took to the Rainbow Centre at the Princess Christian Maternity Hospital (PCMH) for treatment and later returned same to police where she made statement.
Laundeh, 23, is preliminarily being investigated at the lower court for an allegedly penetration of a 2-year-old girl, contrary to Section 19 of the Sexual Offences Act No.12 of 2012.
Police Prosecutor, Assistant Superintendent, Yeanoh E. Koroma, alleges that the accused person on date unknown between Friday 1st March 2019 to Friday, 8th March, 2019, at No. 26 Peacock Farm, Wellington in Freetown, sexually penetrated a child below the age of 18 to wit 2 years.
Defense Counsel, D.K. Edwards applied for bail on behalf of his client, noting that he have reliable sureties that would stand in his recognizance but it was refused by the presiding magistrate who adjourned the hearing to 6th May 2019.
