Man remanded for alleged office breaking

Magistrate Santigie Bangura of the Pademba Road Magistrates’ Court No.1, yesterday (Wednesday 14 February 2018) remanded one Chiba Morgan to the Male Correctional Centre for alleged office breaking and larceny.

The accused person was before Magistrate Bangura on one count of office breaking and larceny contrary to Section 26(1) of the Larceny Act 1916.

According to police prosecutor, Inspector Joseph P. Turay, the accused person on Saturday 16th December, 2017, at the Anti- Corruption Commission office on No. 3 Gloucester street in Freetown, with intent to steal, broke into and entered the said office and stole therein four sharp Air Conditioners, valued seven million, two hundred and twenty thousand Leones, properties of the ACC.

In his testimony, Detective Sergeant 5012 Gabriel Mansaray, attached at Criminal Investigation Department (CID) central police station, recognised the accused and recalled on 16 December, 2017, while on duty at central police station, a case of office breaking and larceny was allocated to him for further investigations and that he later obtained statement from complainant (James Robert).

He explained that on the same date, Detective Police Constable 11522 Koroma A. handed over to him the accused with one sharp air-conditioner and that he endorsed a  search warrant, together with the accused and that on the 25th December, 2017, himself and DPC 11522 Koroma A. interviewed the accused person.

The witness stated that on the 4th January, 2018, with assistance from DPC 11522 Koroma A. ,he finally interviewed the accused and charged him with the offense of office breaking and larceny.

There was no legal representative for the accused person and the matter was adjourned to 20th February 2018.
