One Joseph Koroma was this week sentenced to 18 months imprison by Magistrate Santigie Bangura of the Pademba Road Magistrates’ Court No.5 after he was convicted of fraud.

Koroma had been arraigned on one count of fraudulent conversion.

Police prosecutor Inspector Hawa Williams averred that the accused had defrauded complainant Abdul Abubakarr Sesay by obtaining the sum of Le40 million by falsely pretending he had large stock of fuel for sale in March 2014 at the NP fuel station on Campbell Street in Freetown.

Earlier, in his plea of mitigation, the convict pleaded with the magistrate not to impose a custodian sentence because he is a family man with three children and a first time offender.

However, Magistrate Bangura imposed both a custodian sentence and ordered him to pay a million Leones compensation to the complainant.
