One David Conteh was yesterday remanded at the male Correctional Centre on Pademba Road for allegedly having sexually penetrated a seven-year-old girl.
The accused was arraigned at the Freetown Magistrates’ Court No.2 presided over by Magistrate Komba Kamanda on one count of sexual penetration of a child contrary to Section 19 of the Sexual Offences Act of 2012.
According to police prosecutor Inspector S. Conteh, the accused on 9th October at Motomeh village, penetrated a girl child under the age of 18.
The matter will continue on 11 November at the lower court.
In another matter in the same court, Magistrate Kamanda also remanded one Mohamed Kanneh for the alleged sexual penetration of an 8 year-old girl.
Kanneh was also charged with one count of sexual penetration of a child contrary to Section 19 of the Sexual Offences Act of 2012.
According to prosecutor Inspector S. Conteh, the accused on 1st September at No.54 Cape Road in Aberdeen, west of Freetown, sexually penetrated a girl child under the age of 18.
Inspector Conteh applied for a subpoena in respect of witnesses, and also objected for bail to be granted the accused.
Defence counsel J.T. Trye had applied for bail on behalf of his client, submitting that the accused would put on good conduct and not interfere with prosecution witnesses if granted bail.
However, Magistrate Kamanda refused bail and adjourned the matter to 12th November when the prosecution will open their case.
