Man, 33, committed to High Court for penetrating girl, 13

Magistrate Abdul Sheriff last Thursday (7th March) committed a sexual penetration matter involving one Mohamed Turay, to the High Court for trial.

The accused person had been appearing before Magistrate Sheriff in a preliminary investigation for an alleged sexual   penetration, contrary to Section 19 of the Sexual Offences Act No.12 of 2012.

Police prosecutor, Inspector Isatu Bangura, alleges that the accused on a date between Tuesday 1st March, 2018, and Saturday 1st December, 2018, at Saba Drive, Regent Village in Freetown, sexually penetrated a girl below the age of 18 to wit 13 years.

Magistrate Sheriff remarked that, ‘Having gone through the evidence so far presented in the preliminary investigations, I am satisfied the accused person has a case to answer. I therefore commit this matter to the High Court of justice for trial.”

He however granted bail to the accused in the sum of 40million Leones, two sureties, who  must produce valid NASSIT ID card, with National ID cards, adding that  bail must be approved by the Deputy Master and Registrar.
