Man, 22, remanded for allegedly penetrating girl, 9

One Abu-Bakarr Turay, 22, a footballer, was on Thursday 14th March, remanded at the Male Correctional Centre for allegedly penetrating a 9-year-old girl.

The accused is currently under preliminary investigation at the Magistrates’ Court on one count of Sexual Penetration of a child contrary to Section 19 of the Sexual Offense Act No.12 of 2012.

Police prosecutor, Inspector Gloria Macaulay, alleges that the accused on Saturday, 19th January, 2019, at Gray Bush, Ascension town in Freetown, sexually penetrated a child below the age of 18 to wit 9 years old.

In her testimony, Fatmata S. Kamara said she knew the victim as her younger sister and the accused as his neighbour, recalling on Sunday, 20th January, 2019.

She said on that day and at around 10am, she was about to bathe the victim when she saw blood stained on her pant.

The witness said she showed one Auntie Isha  the stained pants since their  mother was not at home.

She testified that while she was bathing the victim, blood was still oozing from her vergina,which she again showed to the said aunt, who in turn  advised her to keep the pant.

She told the court that after bathing the victim, she provided her with pad because the blood was continuously oozing.

She told the court that when her mother returned home, she explained to her about what had transpired.

She said they later went to the New England Ville Police Station and reported the matter and that they were issued with medical request form which they took to the Rainbow Centre at the Princess Christian Maternity Hospital (PCMH) for medical treatment.

The witness said the document was later returned to the police where they made statement.

The accused person was unrepresented.

Meanwhile Magistrate Abdul Sheriff presiding at the Freetown Magistrate’s court No.7 remanded the accused and adjourned the matter to Tuesday 19th March.
