Lions chairman blasts SLFA suspension

February 26, 2015 By Sahr Morris Jr.

Chairman of East End Lions Football Club, Sanusie Kargbo, has reacted angrily to a decision by the Sierra Leone Football Association (SLFA) to suspend his club from all football activities for withdrawing from this year’s CAF Champions League.

Kargbo described the decision as “stupid and unfortunate” taken by the Isha Johansen-led executive.

He said: “The FA’s action is fake, baseless and totally out of place. It is a deliberate action and a real witch-hunt by the FA president who continues to create bad blood and division among football stakeholders. We are not pushovers. East End Lions is not only a great club but one of the oldest in Africa, and we are going to fight until our last breath.”

Kargbo told journalist Wusha Conteh that the FA had approached them to participate in the competition with the promise of providing them with financial support.

He said: “The FA defaulted from their promise and failed to respond to us when we submitted our budget. Besides, there is a national ban on football activities and it became virtually impossible for us to assemble our boys.”
