Officials and footballers of the Sierra Leone national team, Leone Stars had to spend Thursday night in Lagos, Nigeria after being denied entry visa to South Africa.
According to reports from Nigeria, the players and officials were refused by authorities at the Murtala Muhammad International Airport in Lagos from boarding the flight to South Africa because of visa issue.
Several pleas by the Sierra Leonean officials to be allowed to travel and secure visa on landing fell on deaf ears as the delegation had to return to their hotel.
One of the players in the squad confirmed the incident did happen but was optimistic that they will secure South Africa visa today (Friday) before continuing with their journey to Mbabane, Swaziland via South Africa.
“Yes man we will go to the South Africa embassy tomorrow to get the visa and travel to Swaziland on Saturday,” the player told Concord Times via Facebook.
