The host venue for the Sierra Leone national team Leone Stars’ 2017 African Cup of Nations group I clash against the Elephants of Ivory Coast in Nigeria is still undecided.
Confirming the news, Sierra Leone Football Association (SLFA) Director of Competitions, Sorie Ibrahim Sesay said although it had been confirmed that the match would be played in Lagos, Nigeria, the venue was yet to be confirmed.
Earlier, it was reported in several international media that Leone Stars will host the African champions on Sunday, 6 September at the multi-use Teslim Balogun stadium in Surulere, Lagos, but the SLFA director denied such.
“No venue has been announced for the match as we are still waiting to get confirmation from the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF),” Sesay told Concord Sports, although he expressed confidence the issue would soon be addressed.
The Teslim Balogun Stadium is a 24,000 seater which was used as one of the venues for the 2009 Under-17 World Cup that Nigeria hosted.
