Le185.5m lands man in jail

One Joseph Cyril Blell was last Friday remanded at the maximum security prison on Pademba Road by Magistrate Sheka P. Kamara of the Freetown Magistrates’ Court No.2 for allegedly robbing Abu Bakarr Barrie and Alpha Barrie the sum of Le185.5 million.

The accused was arraigned on nine counts of conspiracy to rob, wounding with intent, assault and robbery with aggravation, contrary to section 23(1) of the Larceny Act of 1916, as repealed and replaced by section 2 of the Larceny Act No.16 of 1971.

According to the prosecution, the accused on diverse dates between 1 and 5 May, 2014, conspired with unknown persons to commit a felony of robbery with aggravation. The prosecution also alleges that the accused on 5 May, 2014, at No.12 College Road, Goderich, in Freetown, while armed with a dagger and stick, robbed Abu Bakarr Barrie of his green traveling bag valued at Le50,000 and containing two mobile phones, a Nokia and three sim cards valued Le500,000, one Sierratel mobile phone valued at Le50,000, plus cash of Le90 million, which total sums up Le90.6 million.

The prosecution also claims that the accused on the same date, armed with a dagger and stone, robbed Alpha Barrie of a travelling bag worth Le50,000, containing assorted items plus the sum of Le94.9 million, as well as wounded the complainant.

The matter continues.
