Le11.7m Embezzlement at Medical and Dental Council

Magistrate Dr. Abu Bhakarr Binneh-Kamara yesterday granted Le50m bail to one Avril Paris ,an employee of the Medical and Dental Council for allegedly embezzling the sum of Le11.7 million.

Magistrate Dr. Binneh-Kamara said the bail should be approved by the Acting Master and Registrar and that the surety must either produce a national passport and title deed of which the property should be located in the Western Area or a bank statement valued Le30 million.

The accused was arraigned at the Freetown Magistrates’ Court No. 2 on 20 counts of larceny by forgery, uttering and embezzlement, contrary to section 17(1)(b) of the Larceny Act 1916.

According to the particulars of offence, the accused on 5 January, 2015 at the Medical and Dental Council, New England Ville in Freetown, being a clerk employed at the Council, stole leaflets with serial No. 2246,2217,224,2216,2221 valued Le25,000 each.

Sergeant John Dumbuya also alleged that the accused on the same date forged certificate of annual practicing license of medical doctors, and purporting to show that it was prepared and signed by the President and Registrar of Medical and Dental Council of Sierra Leone.

The matter continues on 16 March, 2016.
