Lawyer accuses witnesses of ‘trivializing’ murder matter

October 9, 2017 By Memunatu Bangura

Lawyer H.M. Gevao has accused witnesses in the on-going murder matter before Magistrate Albert Moody of Court No.1, involving his client; Ernest Brewa Jr., of trivializing the matter.

Lawyer Gevao is associating with police in prosecuting the alleged murder of one Ibrahim Tarawallie; a bike rider, who was residing at Ferguson Street in Freetown.

The accused was before the court on one count of murder contrary to the laws of Sierra Leone. The police alleged that the accused, on Wednesday 6th September, 2017 at Valley View point, Ferguson Street, murdered Ibrahim Tarawallie.

Lawyer Gaveo applied for the witnesses in the charge file to be brought before the court.

“Your worship, we are applying for Mafereh Conteh and Basieu Barrie to be subpoenaed. Murder is one of the serious offences an individual can commit,” he said.

According to him, the witnesses have been very much reluctant to come to court.

“Such matters are credibility test for the judiciary. The subpoena is to encourage cooperation, but if the witnesses do not comply, application for their arrest is inevitable,” he stated.

The matter was adjourned to 12th October, 2017 for further hearing.
