KKY : on a mission to rescue the education sector

Presidential candidate of the National Grand Coalition (NGC), Dr. Kandeh Kolleh Yumkella, has told Concord Times in an exclusive interview that he will declare education an emergency in his soon-to-be released manifesto.

‘’I am going to declare education an emergency. I have to fix it as it is presently rotten,” he said, adding that education would be the biggest liberation for the country.

The NGC presidential candidate promised to do away with the 500,000 Leones fee prospective students pay for application form to be enrolled in all the constituent colleges of the University of Sierra Leone, stating that every student should be enrolled without paying any dime for application.

The erstwhile UNIDO boss said his party awaits the declaration of campaigns open by the National Electoral Commission (NEC), adding that he has been going round the country on a sensitisation tour and collecting ideas for his manifesto, which is all set to be concluded within ten days.

When asked whether the NGC has the wherewithal to run a successful national campaign, the NGC presidential hopeful revealed that he has been able to visit Port Loko, Kambia, Kabala, and Falaba, amongst others, without a break, within four week.

“People assumed I didn’t have structure; they forget that we formed KKY movement in 2013. So, I have a structure that is five years old,” he said, adding that he would defeat the two traditional political parties and subsequently win the elections.

Dr. Yumkella further revealed that manifesto would entail different sections, including but not limited to economy, good governance, stamping out corruption, growth, and wealth creation through private sector led initiatives.
