Keystone Bank cashier remanded for fraud

Josephine Kamara, a Cashier at Keystone Bank, Lumley Branch, was on Wednesday remanded at the Female Correctional Centre for allegedly embezzling the sum of twenty one million, five hundred thousand Leones.

The accused was charged with six counts of embezzlement and Larceny by Servant.

The prosecution alleged that the accused, being an employee at the Keystone Bank Sierra Leone Limited, embezzled a total sum of twenty one million, five hundred thousand Leones being property of Ibrahim Sorie Turay.

Defence Lawyer, Jesse Gooding ,applied for bail on behalf of the accused, stating that she has been working for the bank for the last three years and nothing like that has ever happened.

He stated that the matter has been under police investigation for the past three weeks and that the accused has been on police bail.

Police prosecutor, Assistance Superintendent Samuel Kamara, objected to the bail application on the grounds of the seriousness of the offense.

He said the relationship between the accused person and the witness (s) was cordial and if granted bail, she would interfere with the prosecutions’ case.

However, the accused was granted bail in the sum of thirty million Leones and one surety.
