Sierra Leone Football Association (SLFA), has confirmed that they have received an approval from the world football governing body (FIFA), to install a standard artificial turf at the Kenema town field, Eastern Sierra Leone.
In a statement released by the SLFA Media department, the sum of US$ 644,500.00 was the approval received from FIFA, with regards the installation of the standard artificial turf in Kenema.
“Upon completion, this will see the Kenema pitch upgraded to a standard that will host any professional local and international matches,” the SLA statement reads.
Edel Grass Group based in Holland are the contractors and are expected to arrive in Sierra Leone any time soon to start the work, which is expected to be finished before the rainy season.
“This incredible development is in line with SLFA President Madam Isha Johansen’s determination to not only develop the game’s infrastructure, but also to explore the possibilities of hosting CAF tournaments in Sierra Leone by next year, possibly starting with the African Nations Championship (CHAN),” the SLFA Media Officer, Ibrahim Kamara said.
