Kaikai eyeing Premier League debut

May 5, 2016 By Sahr Morris Jr.

Sierra Leonean youngster Sullay Kaikai says he is concentrating on earning a Premier League debut for Crystal Palace before the season ends.

The youngster, who was recalled from his recent loan spell at League One outfit Shrewsbury Town on Tuesday, is now eager to make his first senior debut for Palace in the English topflight league after a successful loan spell with the Shrews.

Palace will face Stoke City and Southampton over the next two weeks in the Premier league, before travelling to Wembley to take on Manchester United in the FA Cup Final on 21 May, and the Sierra Leonean youngster could get the nod from manager Alan Pardew, who may rotate his squad before the FA Cup final.

“My aim is to break into the first 11 as soon as possible and take my chance when I get it,” the 20-year-old striker said. “It’s down to self-belief and practice. I put a lot of time in after training, working on my shooting and dribbling. I’m confident that when I get the ball I can do something with it.”

Kaikai, who believes that his time at Shrewsbury has been crucial in his technical development, hopes he can force his way into boss Alan Pardew’s first team plans.

He said: “It’s been a pleasure being at Shrewsbury, learning different aspects of the game and I’m grateful for the opportunity. Going into next season, it will benefit me. My all-round game has improved. I need to have a solid pre-season and see what happens.”

Kaikai was born in London to Sierra Leonean parents. He has scored 12 goals in two separate loans spells for the Shrews, making him the club’s highest scorer of the season. The youngster was also named the Sky Bet League 1 Player of the Month for March for his goal scoring exploit.
