Sierra Leone men’s Kabaddi team on Monday revived their campaign in the circle style Kabaddi World Cup by demolishing newcomers, Sri Lanka 70-6 at the Sangrur Stadium.
The West African nation’s win over their South East Asian opponent, came just a day after the team suffered a 46-38 open day defeat to the five-time winners and the tournament host nation, India.
Sierra Leone’s raiders, Morlai scored 10 points, followed by Samuel with 8 points, while stopper Kamara and Mohamed both secured 9 and 8 points for their team respectively. The pool ‘A’ clash was considered as a one-sided match, as Sierra Leone scored an easy 64 points victory over the debutants.
In the other Pool ‘A’ match, tournament host, India, registered their second victory in a row as they defeated Sweden by 58-45. Indian raiders, Gulzari Moonak, scored 11 and Sukhjinder Kala and Raju scored 1- points each, while stoppers Karamjit Singh and Ranjodh Singh secured three points each. For Sweden, raider Akash scored 11 and Gurvir Singh scored 9 points, while stopper Jaap Singh secured 3 points.
England got the better of Canada by 41-35 and a formidable Iran men’s team gave a kabaddi lesson to Argentina team by 72-27 win. With this win, the Iran team scored their third successive win and secured their place in the semi-finals.
