Sierra Leone handball female national team will have to face Senegal, Cape Verde, Guinea Bissau, Mauritania and Morocco in Group B of the International Handball Federation (IHF) trophy billed for Guinea, Conakry, from 23 – 28 July, 2016.
The male team, on the other hand, has also been placed in a Group B, which includes host nation Guinea, Senegal and Mauritania.
According to the Sierra Leone Handball Association (SLHA) Public Relations Officer, Femi Cole, the IHF tournament is a competition which always attract over five nations, mainly from the Zone II region.
He said the North Africa giant, Morocco, will be competing in this year’s tournament as a guest competitor and their points in all matches will not be officially registered.
Already, both the male and female teams are undergoing intensive daily training session at the National Stadium, ahead of the tournament.
“Both male and female teams will comprise of 14 players each. The female team will comprise of players born in 1997 and younger while the male team players will include those who are born in 1996 and younger,” Cole said.
He also revealed that four coaches, two for each team, will also attend a coaching course during the tournament, while a couple of referees will also be attending a referee’s course.
The Sierra Leone delegation is expected to depart the country on 21 July, a day before the official arrival date for all teams.
