Husband remanded for pouring acid on wife

One Abdul Rahman Jalloh was yesterday remanded at the Male Correctional Centre on Pademba Road for allegedly pouring acid on his wife, Hajaratu Turay.

He was arraigned at the Freetown Magistrates’ Courts No.1 presided over by Magistrate Komba Kamanda on three counts of causing grievous bodily harm, wounding with intent and assault.

Sergeant 922 John Dumbuya, prosecuting, said the accused caused grievous bodily harm to the complainant on Tuesday, 17 March, 2015 at No.61 Jalloh Terrace, Wellington, east Freetown.

Sergeant Dumbuya informed the court that the victim had told the police the brutal savage attack took place while she was asleep and that she woke up after she felt hot liquid being smeared over her body.

Magistrate Kamanda ordered the prosecutor to ensure his factual witness was in court on the next adjourned date, in order to expedite the trial.

The accused was denied bail as the matter was adjourned till 30 April.
