Sierra Leone’s High Commissioner to the Republic of Kenya who also doubles as Sierra Leone’s Permanent Representative to United Nations Office in Nairobi ( UNON), United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) and UN— Habitat, Her Excellency Madam Isatu Aminata Bundu has today, 17thJune, 2021 presented her letter of Credence to the Under— Secretary General and Director General of UNON, Her Excellency Madam Zainab Hawa Bangura in Nairobi via virtual video conference.
In making her presentation, High Commissioner Bundu extended the fraternal greetings of His Excellency Dr. Julius Maada Bio, President of the Republic of Sierra Leone and the People of Sierra Leone to Madam Bangura and the United Nations. She further conveyed Sierra Leone’s gratitude to the Director General for UNON’s continuous support to the Government and People of Sierra Leone.
“… Sierra Leone is a great beneficiary of the United Nations Programmes, projects and initiatives and shares core values and aspirations of United Nations while collaborating on multifaceted global issues which include environment, housing, security just to mention but a few “ High Commissioner said.
Madam Bundu as well recognized the position and the unwavering commitment of President Bio on the reformation of the UN Security Council and African Common Position.
In that regard the High Commissioner said “ … Your Excellency, as you are well aware my President is currently the Chair of the Committee of Ten (C-10) Africa Heads of State and Government on the reform of the UN Security Council advocating the African Common Position as contained in the Ezulwini Consensus and the Sirte Declaration and this well elaborate Sierra Leone’s involvement in United Nations and its affiliate bodies”
Furthermore, the High Commissioner expressed weighty appreciation to UN —Habitat for organizing the National Urban Breakfast and Dialogue in Freetown in June, 2019 which aimed at formulating a National Urban Policy and assured the Director— General of her dedication to UNON, UNEP and UN— Habitat.
In her response,Madam Bangura assured High Commissioner Bundu of UNON’s readiness and continued support to Sierra Leone Government in making the country a complete success story. She further stated that she was honoured to receive a young Sierra Leonean woman on behalf of the United Nations Secretary General, His Excellency Antonio Guttres. She welcomed the High Commissioner to the women’s club, stating that the Under Secretary—Generals of both UNEP and UN— Habitat are women. As a Leonean herself who has been a relentless advocate for conflict resolution and reconciliation and Human Rights champion, pledged her unflinching commitment in closely working with the High Commissioner and the Government of Sierra Leone in ensuring that country’s potentials are fully realized.
