Guinean remanded for attempted fraud on Ambassador

One Amadu Wurrie, a Guinean national, was yesterday remanded at the Male Correctional Centre on Pademba Road for his alleged attempt to defraud Guinean Ambassador to Sierra Leone, H.E. Foday  Kamara, the sum of Le2 million.

The accused was arraigned at the Freetown Magistrates’ Court No.1 presided over by Magistrate Komba Kamanda on two counts of conspiracy to defraud contrary to law and attempt to defraud contrary to the laws of Sierra Leone.

According to the police prosecutor, Assistant Superintendent Samuel Kamara, the accused conspired with other individuals to defraud the ambassador at the Guinean Embassy on Jomo Kenyatta Road, Monday, 2 March, 2015.

The prosecution also alleged that the accused on the same date at the Guinean Embassy attempted to defraud the ambassador the sum of Le2 million.

The accused was not represented by a lawyer, while the prosecutor informed the court his witnesses were not present. He applied to be granted time by the magistrate to assemble his witnesses.

Magistrate Kamanda granted the application of the prosecutor but urged him to produce the witnesses at the next adjourned date of 17 March to expedite the matter.
