Girl, 4, tells court how she was sexually abused

A four-year-old girl last Friday, 29th March, told the court how she was sexually abused by 30 years old Alie Bangura, a Marine Observer.

The victim recognised the accused as her neighbour and recalled on the day of the alleged incident.

She said on that day after school, she went to her friend (Adama) to play and that while they were playing; they started quarrelling with each other.

She said the accused called her inside his room and forcefully removed her pants and had sexual intercourse with her.

She told the court that after the forceful intercourse, blood started oozing from her vagina. She told the court that she later went home and told her aunt that she wanted to use the restroom.

She said after using the toilet, she went to bed and when she woke up later in the evening, she started vomiting. She explained that her aunt took her to the Princess Christian Maternity Hospital for treatment.

She said after the medical examination, the doctor asked her as to what had happened to her, adding that she told the doctor that the accused had sexually abused her.

Meanwhile, her aunt, Isata Kamara, admitted knowing the accused as her neighbour and recalled on the day of the incident.

“On that day at around 2pm, I was preparing food when my younger sister asked for the whereabouts of the victim. When the victim returned, she told me that she wanted to use the toilet and I directed her to the stool,” she said.

She told the court that she instructed her sister to wash the victim and empty the stool. She said her sister later informed her that she saw blood on the stool.

The witness said she saw blood discharging from the victim’s vagina, which prompted her to call the attention of the neighbours, who advised her to buy pampas and take the child to hospital.

The witness said they later took the victim to the hospital for medical examination and after that process, she informed her husband about the alleged sexual abuse.

She said the following morning, they arrested the accused and took him to the Kissy Police Station, where they made statement.

The accused person is before the court on one count of Sexual Penetration of a child contrary to Section 19 of the Sexual Offense Act No.12 of 2012.

Police Prosecutor, Assistant Superintendent, Moses Moore, alleges that the accused person on Friday, 8th March, 2019, at No. 17 Off Bai Bureh Road, Quarry, Kissy in Freetown, sexually penetrated a child below the age of 18 to wit 4 years old.

After making four appearances in court, the prosecution has closed their case and Magistrate Abdul Sheriff presiding at court No.7 has remanded the accused and adjourned the matter to Tuesday 2nd April for ruling.
