Ginger Hall community wants improved WASH facilities

June 10, 2015

The Water, Sanitation and Hygiene Network (WASH-Net), with support from the Freetown WASH Consortium, has started engaging Peripheral Health Units (PHUs) in the Western Area to identify gaps in accessing WASH facilities.

The network is also looking at the various contributions made by WASH service delivery partners including the Guma Valley Water Company, Freetown City Council, MASADA and the District Health Management Team.

Maternal and Child Healthcare Nurse, Mariama Ashum attached to the Ginger Hall PHU, said they are faced with serious water shortage.

According to community residents interviewed, there are two public toilets but which could not be used due to the unavailability of water in the area.

Poor waste management at the community’s PHU was observed with residents calling on partners, stakeholders and the government to come to their aid.
