Frequenting & obstruction…

6 await jail sentence

AUGUST 26, 2014 By Patrick J. Kamara

Six accused persons yesterday pleaded guilty to the offence of frequenting and obstruction of police before Magistrate Tonia Barnett who presides at the Pademba Road Magistrates’ Court No.1

The accused persons have all been remanded at the maximum security prisons on Pademba Road awaiting their jail terms.

Tenneh Kanneh aka ‘Lady Gaga’, Mohamed Lamin Turay, Mohamed Mansaray, Serry Kamara, Osman Kamara and Foday Salam Sillah were before the court on two counts of frequenting at a place used for smoking marijuana, and for obstruction of police contrary to Section 39(1) of the Police Act No.7 of 1964.

Police prosecutor 3001 Frances Lamin alleged that on Thursday 21 August at Cockle Bay, off Wilkinson Road, the accused persons were found frequenting at a place used for smoking cannabis sativa, which is contrary to Section 49(1) of the Pharmacy and Drugs Act of 2001.

She also alleged that on the same date, the accused persons obstructed one Assistant Superintendent of Police Moijueh S while executing his lawful duties.

Before the adjourned date, defence counsel J.T. Trye pleaded with the bench not to impose custodial sentence and to tamper justice with mercy.

He argued that his clients were first time offenders and had not wasted the court’s time in answering to the offence.

However, the six accused persons will know their fates when they next appear in court.
