Four in custody for murder at Bumbuna By Yusufu S. Bangura

March 30, 2021

Four men who were accused of murdering Ibrahim Kamara were yesterday remanded at the Male Correctional centre after their second appearance before Justice Hannah Bonnie presiding at Freetown High Court.

Police alleges that Tamba Kargbo, Daddy Balinga, Tamba Turay, and Saio Kargbo, murdered Kamara at their poro society bush and threw him in the Bumbuna waterfall.

Polices say, the accused persons’ defence for the act was that the deceased took photograph of the poro society men.

Led in evidence by State Prosecutor, Ernestine Spain, Detective Sergeant 6566 Mathew Gavao Karim Vangao attached to the Homicide Unit, Criminal Investigations Department Headquarters, said he recognized the accused persons and recalled on the 11th March, 2020, when a transfer case and enquiry file of murder from Magboroka police station was handed over to him for further investigation.

He told the court that the following day, a team of detectives led by Inspector D.A Munu left Freetown for Bumbuna town and upon their arrival they were led to the waterfall by the deceased’s  sister and after they were taken to a place called Bo Road where they eventually found the remains of the deceased.

The witness said he obtained statement from the accused persons and charged them to court with the offence of conspiracy and murder on 16th April, 2020.

The witness was cross examined by defense counsel K.P Koroma.

The accused persons were arraigned before Justice Bonnie on two counts of conspiracy and murder.

The charge sheet states that the accused persons on 7th February, 2020, at Bumbuna Waterfall, via Magboruka, conspired with other persons unknown to murder Ibrahim Kamara.

Meanwhile, the matter has been adjourned to Monday 12th April, 2021.
