Hon. Frank Kposowa: RIP

Former President of the Sierra Leone Association of Journalists (SLAJ) and Member of Parliament representing the Sierra Leone Peoples Party (SLPP) in Constituency 71 in the Bo district yesterday met his untimely death in a fatal road accident.

According to reports monitored on social media, Hon. Frank Kposowa lost his life at Mile 91 after an oncoming government bus lost control and slammed into his vehicle, which was damaged beyond repairs.

Before entering into politics in 2007, Hon. Kposowa was a seasoned media practitioner for many years, serving as both editor and proprietor of The News Newspaper.

He became President of SLAJ in the 1990s and played his role in transforming the association into a professional and respectable outfit.

As a Member of Parliament for two terms (2007 -2017), he contributed significantly to the passage of many agreements, bills and other instruments.

Also, he was very much instrumental in the passage of the Right to Access Information Bill into law in 2013.

At the end of his second term in parliament, Hon. Kposowa decided not to seek re-election because of poor health.

The media fraternity yesterday received his death with huge shock and reacted by expressing their deep sense of grief. Mayoral aspirant for the ruling All Peoples Party in Koidu and former editor of Concord Times, Sahr Musa Yamba described him as a ‘mentor’, having cut his journalistic teeth with Hon. Kposowa at The News newspaper. Some of his other protégés described him as a ‘father’, while Joshua Nicol, a lecturer at the Mass Communications Department at Fourah Bay College who studied French and journalism with Kposowa some 30 years ago, described his tragic passing as “a loss”.
