Players of Sierra Leone national team, Leone Stars, have joined the rest of the football and sports family to sympathies with the Conteh family for the demise of their teammate, Alhaji Duada Conteh.

News of Conteh’s demise came in the morning hours of Saturday July 8 as the Sierra Leone international was said to have passed away in Freetown due to illness.

Sierra Leone first choice goalkeeper, Solomon Zombo Morris in a short message said: “Gone too soon but God knows best brother.” Leone Stars Turkey based midfielder, Alfred Sankoh posted on his official Facebook page: “R.I.P. brother, God knows best but this is so scary just a month ago we were together.”

Conteh’s former FC Kallon teammate, Junior Lahai Coker’s  message reads: “We use to play together why so soon brother still can’t believe u leave the football family so soon. Rest In Peace brother.”

The Sierra Leone Football Association (SLFA) stated in their official message: “The President of the SLFA, executive committee members and the entire staff of the Association will like to extend our heartfelt condolence to the family, friends and people of this country for this great lost. May the soul of the departed Rest in Peace.”

The late goalkeeper was a few weeks ago part of the Sierra Leone national team 2019 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers preparation against The Harambee Stars of Kenya. He was left out of the 18-man squad that defeats the Kenyans 2-1 on June 10 due to illness in the team’s camp.

Conteh started his goalkeeping career from his local, Kissy Community before he later joined East End Lions, F.C Kallon & Diamond Stars.

He was part of the FC Kallon squad as sub goalkeeper that eliminated Union Sportive Douala of Cameroon in the first round of the CAF Confederation Cup thanks to a 2-0 win in Freetown in the second leg.

Also the late goalkeeper was one of the three shot-stopper included in the National team squad that was camped in Accra, Ghana as part of the team’s preparation during the Gabon 2017 African Nation Cup qualifiers final must win match with the Elephants of Ivory Coast in Bouake.

The former East End Lions and FC Kallon goalkeeper went on to play for Fellow Stars and Horoya AC in Conakry, Guinea.
