35-year-old Martin Alimamy Kargbo, a bike rider and also an estate agent, made his first appearance before Magistrate Sahr Kekura of the Pademba Road Court No:1 for conspiracy to commit a crime to wit conspiracy to defraud, and cause money to be paid by false pretense, contrary to Section 32 (2) of the Larceny Act of 1916.
Police alleged that the accused person on a day between 13th November, 2023 and the 21st December, 2023, in Freetown, with intent to defraud, conspired together with other persons unknown to obtain one hundred and thirty seven thousand, five hundred Leones (le 137500/00) from Jariatu Sumner, by falsely pretending that he had two and half town lots of land situated and lying and being at the Peninsular, specifically Baw Baw Village for sale, knowing to same to be false.
It was alleged that the accused person on a day between 13th November 2023 and the 21st December 2023 in Freetown, with intent to defraud, conspired together with other persons unknown and obtain the sum of one hundred and thirty seven thousand, five hundred Leones (le 137500/00) from Jariatu Sumner by falsely pretending that he had two and half town lots of land situated and lying and being at the Peninsular, Baw Baw village for sale, knowing to be false
The witness was presented in court, but the state prosecutor sought for a short date for him to have proper conference with her.
The defense counsel made an application for bail to be administered to his client, but the Magistrate refused the accused bail due to the seriousness of the offense.
Meanwhile, the accused was remanded to the Male Correctional Centre at Pademba Road in Freetown.
The matter was adjourned to the 22nd February 2024.
